How to do a Manicure
Step 2 - Cuticle Care

Learning how to do a manicure properly is critical to having wonderful nails.

In this step on cuticle care, our main aim is to tidy up the loose skin around the Cuticle Line.

The tool we will use to improve our cuticles is called an Orange Stick. Surround the Orange Stick with cotton wool as shown below:

Cuticle Cream or cuticle remover can also be used here to help the excess cuticle to separate from the nail plate.

Cuticle Care Process - Stage 1

  1. Soak your fingers in warm water for around 5 minutes, so that the cuticles are softened.
  2. Add some liquid soap and aroma oil to help cleanse and relax the fingers.
  3. Thoroughly wipe your hands so that you are ready to move to the second stage.

Cuticle Care Process - Stage 2

  1. Apply a drop of Cuticle Cream to the centre of the Cuticle Line
  2. Rub the cuticle cream onto the entire cuticle line
  3. Make the cotton Orange Stick as described above
  4. Dip the Orange Stick quickly into water to make it damp (not soaked)
  5. Push up the cuticle in a circular motion using the damp Orange Stick with light pressure. The circular movements will prevent damage to the skin.
  6. Wipe off excess cuticle with Gauze

Hang Nails

Another tool that is useful is the Cuticle Nipper, which has just the one purpose, and that is to remove hang nails. The technique is to always follow the natural curve of the cuticle and to:
  • Wrap gauze around the thumb
  • Hold the cuticle nipper firmly to cut the entire hangnail at once
  • Wipe off the excess cuticle using the gauze
  • Try to avoid tearing or pulling the hangnails
