French Manicure Tips
There are plenty of French Manicure Tips in the instructions below, I hope you find them useful
Overall Approach
Throughout the instructions below, please design on one fingernail at a time, progressively moving across both hands as in the diagram below.
It is also important to start with the same fingernail for each new step below as this will allow each nail enough time to be ready for the next coat and prevent streaking from occurring.
- Base Coat
- Base Color
- White Color
- Top Coat
Step by Step Instructions
- 1. Complete the first 4 steps of Home Manicure (Filing, Cuticle Care, Buffing & Hand Massage).
- 2. Apply the base coat, starting from the cuticle line and moving up to the free edge, starting from the centre of the nail and then both sides of the nail.
- 3. Apply the base color in the same manner described for the base coat for all nails.
- 4. Apply a second coat of base color once the first coat is completed on all nails. It is important to apply the second coat with a light pressure so that you will not drag the first coat. This can be achieved by keeping the brush straight and using enough enamel – in doing so, this prevents the brush from spreading out.
- 5. Apply white color nail polish to the edge of the nail as shown in the diagram below.
Step by Step Instructions (Cont.)
- 6. Using a small amount of white nail polish to draw arches from both sides of the free edge toward the center of the free edge. Try to overlap the arches at the centre of the free edge so that a natural smooth line is created. Only one coat is applied for this step.
- 7. Apply a second coat of white enamel over the arches that were drawn in Step 6. It is important that the second coat is thick enough to prevent streaking from occurring.
- 8. Remove any excess enamel that has gone onto the skin by using an orange stick with a tiny amount of cotton wool.
- 9. Apply the top coat starting from the free edge to prevent dragging the white enamel. Then apply the top coat to the remainder of the nail.
- 10. Allow your nails to dry thoroughly before touching.
