Step 5 - Finger Nail Polish
Applying Finger Nail Polish is the final step of the Manicure process, I hope you have learnt lots so far!!
Stage 1: Remove Moisture
It is important to remove moisture that is left on the nail from using the cuticle oil and massage cream. This will prevent the nail polish from running as well as allowing a nice cuticle line to be created. To remove the moisture we need to wipe the nail plate using gauze, damp with Nail Polish Remover. For under the free edge, use cotton buds with Nail Polish Remover. Repeat for all nails.
Stage 2: Mix Nail Polish
- Roll the nail polish bottle between your hands to mix the nail polish without making bubbles
- Try not to shake the bottle, as this will create bubbles in the nail polish
Overall Order
The instructions in Stage 3 & 4 are to be followed in the order below:- Base Coat
- Nail Polish - 1st Coat
- Nail Polish - 2nd Coat (slightly more nail polish than 1st)
- Top Coat
Stage 3: Apply Finger Nail Polish to Free Edge
- Rotate brush in the top of the bottle. This will remove excess nail polish and make the brush round
- Leave a small amount of nail polish on the brush and apply onto the free edge as shown below
Stage 4: Apply Finger Nail Polish to Nail Plate
- Remove the brush by pressing against one side of the bottle for the top 2/3 of the brush
- Then press the entire length of the other side brush against the other side of the bottle
- This will make the brush flat and leave polish on the bottom 1/3 of side of the brush
- Starting from the center of the nail plate, touch with the brush just before the cuticle
- Push nail polish up to to cuticle line, leaving a space equal to the width of a hair
- Drag the brush towards the free edge
- Draw cuticle line with the corner of the brush
- Correct any imperfections of the cuticle line by using the
Orange Stick wrapped in cotton wool
Fingernail Ordering
Throughout the instructions above, please apply polish to one fingernail at a time, progressively moving across both hands as in the diagram below.
It is also important to start with the same fingernail for each coat as this will ensure the nails have enough time to be ready for the next coat and prevent streaking from occurring.
